Diazepam is drug from the class of medicines called Benzodiazepines. It is used in treating short-term relief from the symptoms of mild and moderate anxiety or alcohol withdrawal.

How does the drug work?

The drug works by slowing down the nerves in the brain. The injectable form of this medicine is used to control prolonged seizures.


The recommended dose of diazepam in adults ranges from 2 mg to 10 mg taken 2 to 4 times daily. For children over 6 months, the initial dose of 1 mg to 2.5 mg, to be taken 3 or 4 times a day.

How should I use this medicine?

Diazepam is normally used for a short time or as needed. It can create addiction when taken for long periods. If you have been using this medicine for a long time (that is, more than a month), do not stop using your doctor. To avoid withdrawal effects, a gradual reduction of the dose is generally recommended when stopping this medication


• Allergies to Diazepam drug, Oxazepam or Temazpam or any other allergies.
• Inform doctor id you have the history of following diseases: muscle disease (myasthenia gravis), lung/breathing problems (such as COPD, sleep apnea), mental/mood disorders (such as depression, thoughts of suicide, psychosis), self or family history of a substance use disorder (such as overuse of or addiction to drugs/alcohol), glaucoma, liver disease, kidney disease.
• Driving, use of machinery, or anything that needs alertness or clear vision until you can do it safely is discouraged. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Inform doctor if you are using marijuana (cannabis).
• Before having surgery, inform physician or dentist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).
• Children and adults are more sensitive to drug and can cause hallucination, restlessness, agitation.

Side Effects

• Anxiety or agitation
• Confusion
• Falls and fractures
• Rapid, violent or irregular heartbeat
• Hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that are missing)
• Memory loss
• Changes in mood or behavior (eg, aggression, anger, anxiety or excitement)
• Nightmares
• Signs of depression (eg, poor concentration, weight changes, sleep changes, decreased interest in activities, suicidal thoughts)
• Stop taking the medicine and see a doctor immediately if any of the following symptoms occur:
• Signs of a serious allergic reaction (eg, abdominal cramps, breathing difficulties, nausea and vomiting, or swelling of the face and throat)
